The metal is a good conductor, so it has constant voltage throughout, and the electric field equals zero inside it: the wave doesn't penetrate and is 100% reflected. The square in figure w is the “graph paper” used by someone who considers the source to be at rest, while the parallelogram plays a similar role for the receiver.

As it turns out, what is thought of as "light" is actually a propagating oscillatory disturbance in the electromagnetic field, that is, an electromagnetic wave. One of these torques is restraining torque and other is operating torque. The fact that none of these evolved into a practical device reflects largely the immaturity of required support technology and lack of coordinated follow-up programs.

It is not disputed that electromagnetic fields above certain levels can trigger biological effects. A bubble of gas that is hotter than its surroundings expands and rises.
